Head Upgrade with Bidet!

Sharing is caring!

We have worked to retrofit our boat as a cruising boat and a live aboard boat. Installing a bidet seemed to be a no brainier. The main drawback is access to fresh water. The bidet is wonderful while docked and having access to fresh water. While cruising the access to fresh water water may be limited. But toilet paper takes up a lot of room which is limited on a cruising boat. (Our boat carries 200 gallons of fresh water.)

The toilet is plumbed to use fresh water or sea water for flushing, depending upon fresh water access. While cruising we flush with sea water.

But while tied up we switch to fresh water. The fresh water keeps the head smelling nice. Dead bacteria in the lines from sea water is the main cause for smelly marine heads.

The bidet is plumbed to always draw water from the fresh water tanks.

All waste goes into the holding tank unless we are legally offshore.

We updated the head and added a type 1 Sanitation Device, an Electroscan with a 4 gallon salt feed tank.

Raritan Electroscan USCG Scan Type 1 certified unit
4-Gallon Salt Feed Tank. Highly recommended.

We have more than the luxuries of home! Plus besides keeping the Admiral happy, you’d be surprise to see the smile on the captain!

We sourced all of the retrofit from raritaneng

  1. It is great to see a couple who plan to “Live Aboard”. Most folks only “exist aboard”.
    Your boat is fantastic.
